I don't really have much to say about Austin, we just got here.
This place is actually 2 places, Oak Forest RV Resort and Village Farm Tiny Home Community. The RV park is in the middle and is split in 3 sections. The old section is tight and has a lot of trees with dirt sites. The middle section is where we are and has fewer trees and are all pull throughs. The last section is the new section and the sites are bigger with patios and outdoor furniture but they are all back in sites. Here is a picture of the older area.
We looked at one of the tiny houses when we were on our morning walk. It was for sale at $129,000 with $625 a month lot rental. For that, you get a pretty nice tiny home with 399 sq feet of living space. These tiny homes are better than most we have seen on our journey. Is it worth buying one? Probably not for us. You still pay $625 a month after you pay off the home. At The Palms in Yuma, you only pay $225 a month fee but the houses and lots are more expensive.
I think we are going to go look at actual houses in the area today to get an idea of what we can afford. We will be looking in 55+ communities. On the way here, we went through Fredericksburg. It was a pretty little German town in the middle of the Texas wine country. It is not as nice as Napa, but better than Amador County in California. While we were driving, Jan checked house prices and they were too expensive for us.
We did go out to dinner yesterday at the Brewtorium Brewery. Dumb name, but good beer. We had a pretzel and pickled veggies for appetizers and a pepperoni pizza for dinner. If we go there again, I would get a growler of their Pale Ale. Actually, I would probably order a flight of beer in case they have one better.
