The end is in sight for our stay in Bakersfield.
Here is what happened with the truck. There is a filter screen going into the catalytic converter. The diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) is sprayed on this screen and the exhaust blows through it. This cleans up the exhaust before going through the catalytic converter to get even more pollutants out of the exhaust. Anyway, this screen got totally blocked up. This built up the exhaust pressure which blew the pipe off the turbo and broke the clamps holding the pipe on the truck.
To fix this I had to order my own turbo exhaust pipe. I didn't actually need a new pipe, but they do not sell the clamps on their own, they only come with the pipe. That is what took so long. The pipe kit is still on back order with GMC. Bill, the mobile service guy, found one for me. He had one of his crew dropped it off at the dealer. The guy who dropped it off had no idea what he was supposed to do, so he just gave it to the first guy he found at the service department. Needless to say, it got lost for a week. He dropped it off last Wednesday and they didn't find it until Tuesday night.
Luckily, they did have a filter screen in stock. Carlos, my service rep, said that it is usually the other way around. They would have had the exhaust pipe, but not the filter. Anyway, they are installing everything and I think it will be done tomorrow or Friday.
In other news, they have the parts to fix the trailer from my crash back in Fortuna. I don't have a service date schedule yet, but when I do, we will finally be able to start scheduling some places to stay. I need to make a Christmas/New Years reservations soon, because they will get booked up. If I can't get anything, I might have to stay in Suzanne's backyard.
I will update the blog and the website when we actually have an itinerary.
