Beer Update

It's been a while since I wrote about beer so here goes.

I am still drinking the Bavarian Weissbier that I brewed earlier. It's not as good as some of my other batches. I think I bottled it early and that left it with a kind of sweet taste. That will eventually go away if it conditions in the bottle for a little longer. We are visiting John and Babs Angel on Saturday so I will bring some bottles.

I have a batch of Breakfast Stout fermenting. It will be ready to bottle next Tuesday.

This picture is the hops sacks in the wort. I put one hop sack in to boil for 60 minutes, one for 30 minutes and one I put in just before I took it off the heat. The 30 and 6o minute boils won't add anything but the bitterness. The last one will add the hops smell and taste.

The recipe called for 1/2 cup of bourbon and 1/2 cup of maple syrup. Both of those will add taste and alcohol content. Here is the wort in the fermenter.

This recipe has so much malt and syrup that it needs to condition in the bottle for at least 2 months. That will make it ready to drink around my birthday.

In the meantime, I have to buy beer. I just don't have the capacity to brew like I used to.

I just finished a growler of Tamocah Brewery 9 to 5 Stout. This was a very good beer. If I am in the area of Port Orange again, I would go again. In fact, I will be back there next Tuesday when Jan has her dentist appointment. I may get another growler.

As for cans of beer, I have Coppertail Free Dive Brewery's Free Dive IPA. I give it a 4 out of 5 for an IPA. Founder's Brewing All Day IPA is still my favorite.

I also have Brew Hub's Diver Down Imperial Red Ale. Imperial means that it has more hops that the usual red ale. It's only a 3 out of 5.

Finally, I have a Sierra Nevada's Hazy Little Thing IPA. I give it a 4 out of 5. I still like the Sierra Nevada Pale Ale or Celebration Ale more.

I am running out of beer recipes to brew so I put in an order with Mr. Beer. I got:

Black Eye Bock - This is.a bock with dark malt.

Salty Dog Gose - I've mad this before. It's a very good gose (which is a sour beer).

Over Inflated Tire Amber - This is a rip off of Fat Tire Ale, one of my favorite amber ales.

American Pale Ale - This is a rip off of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. I have made it before and it is one of my favorites.

American Ale - This is a generic ale, but I like it a lot for the summertime

2 batches of Bavarian Weisbier - This is one of Jan's favorite beers that I make.

I tried to get more beer at Costco today, but their selection is terrible. Just Bud, Coors, Michelobe, Yeungling, and a couple of hard seltzers. Nothing I wanted to spend any money on drinking.

I am a definite beer snob. I will not drink flavorless so called beer.
