College Park, MD (Washington DC)

We have left the Old South and are in New England.

The sun was in the right place and you can really see the bug splats on the windshield.

I didn't write much about Virginia because it was kind of a boring place. We were told to not bother with Civil War battlefields, which there are hundreds, because they are nothing but empty fields with some plaques. The place we stayed, Gloucester, was way out in the middle of nowhere. We did go to Richmond to check the place out. All the tourist websites said to go see Monument Blvd, so we did. If you are ever in Richmond, skip it. George Floyd riots made them think twice about Confederate generals so they took them down all the statues. All that's left on Monument Blvd is some pedestals and one statue of Arthur Ashe. He is a big deal in Richmond. Driving down Monument Blvd is still kind of interesting. It's kind of like the Fab 40's in Sacramento with lots of expensive mansions.

We did stop at Hardywood Brewery. It had a nice, gravel beer garden. Too bad the beer was only so-so. In other beer news. My latest batch of Blackeye Bock will be ready to drink tomorrow.

Side note about Virginia: They really like brick houses. About 90% of the houses we saw were brick. Sometimes they paint them, but they still look like brick houses.

The Photo page for Virginia is going to be small. I only took a couple of photos of the brewery and just a couple of the park. Jan took some of the roads so I will add them too.

This park is only 4 miles from Washington DC so we will be going there at least once, maybe twice. The Smithsonian is closed so that cuts out a lot of site seeing. The 83 bus stops here at the park and we can take that right in to the Capital. We need to hire a dog sitter before we make any more plans.

The Cherry Hill Park is a very nice place. It is very well maintained and has lots to do. They have a cafè that will deliver to your trailer. Starting in May, they have their own DC tours. Too bad we will miss that. The dog sitter is part of the park too. I think you give them the key to your trailer and they come and walk your dogs every so often. If anyone reading this who has an RV wants to visit Washington, this is a great place to stay. There are a couple of downsides, it is next to a freeway so there is a lot of traffic noise. Also, it is one of the more expensive places we have stayed at.

The dog park is great. We will make an agility dog out of Brie yet. They have this A frame ramp for the dogs to go over and Brie did it all by herself. That surprised us. There are large flat platforms that she jumps on, mostly to get away from Porter. She will also run through the tunnels by herself. Again, probably to get away from Porter who is afraid of the tunnels.
