We had a slight change in plans. The original plan was to go back to Corpus Christi then to Houston but we decided to skip that because of the road construction and the wind.
Instead of Corpus Christi, we stayed one night in George West, Texas (the storytelling capital of Texas). The next day, we went to Columbus, Texas, one day earlier that scheduled.
This is our second time at the park in Columbus. Since we were here last, they added a whole new section of RV sites. These sites are all pull through sites with 50 amps. Much better than the old sections which are back in and mostly 30 amps. Those trees in the picture above are an old pecan grove. Some are more than 200 years old.
Brie is disappointed with the park upgrades since they took out the dog park. No running free for her.
Part of our trip yesterday was interrupted. We were going through the town of Cuero when we were stopped by a police car in the middle of the road.
We got there just as the Blue Bonnet Festival parade was starting. We spent 30 minutes watching the parade. We had a great view of the parade because they were turning right around that police car.
The strange thing about the Blue Bonnet Festival is that the blue bonnet flowers are already done blooming. They should have had the festival a week or two ago when they were in bloom.
Here are a few shots of the RV park.
I did see fireflies for the first time since we visited Vermont and Upstate New York. I will try to take some pictures of them again. It's hard work, I need to set up the tripod and focus the camera beforehand. The camera autofocus doesn't work well in the dark, not enough edges for it to check the focus.
We only spent 1 night in George West. The park was on the Nueces River. It was a small park with only about 30 sites. It looked good, but it had a couple of dog problems. The house right next to the park had a chihuahua in a crate on the back porch. They didn't seem to ever let it in to the house, so naturally, the dog barked the whole time we were there. What's the point of having a dog if you are only going to crate it outside all day and night. The other problem was a couple of stray dogs. The owner of the park thinks that someone dumped them at the public boat ramp and they wandered over to the RV park looking for food. Here are some pictures of that park.
I had to fill up with gas before we left George West and I stopped at a donut shop. One of the big foods in Texas is kolaches. There are 2 kinds, the traditional which is a pastry filled with fruit, the other kind is filled with meat and is really just a pig in a blanket (a sausage wrapped in dough). I wanted to try the fruit kind so I stopped at the donut shop. They didn't have any. Jan usually has a plain cake donut, but they didn't have any cake donuts either. A donut shop that doesn't have 2 major types of donuts is not a very good shop.
