It‘s Sunday, but this post is about the trip through Saturday. This shot is down an alley looking towards the lake.
Guithoorn, the Venice of The Netherlands
Guithoorn is a small town where they sent criminals to dig up peat to sell for burning. They also dug it to make canals to keep the town from flooding. They did this for so long that there is no place for roads, you have to get around by boat. That’s not a problem anymore because the town is now a vacation destination, not really a place for full time living.
I bet this place is beautiful in the spring and summer. You can still see where are the flowers were. Also, most of the houses have art. I don’t really know what is going on with the goat in the last picture.
By the way, public art is big in The Netherlands. There are sculptures everywhere along the roads.
Dinner at Shelby’s house
Jan made 2 pans of of enchiladas and we took them over to Shelby’s house. We spent the evening with Shelby, Rood, Anja, Antonio, Jodi, and, of course, Runa.
Day out in downtown Harderwijk.
Sunday, Shelby and family came over to Harderwijk and we spent the afternoon wandering around the old city. The original walls for the city were built in the 14th century, way back when it was a fishing village. There are brick walls and parts of buildings built from back then through every century since then still being used.
That last picture is what is called a Dutch Stairway. It’s basically a ladder that is leaning back a little.
