Late Netherlands Post

Here is some more stuff we did in The Netherlands.

I guess, in chronological order, we went to the Sand Sculpture Garden in Garderen. They do one large set of sand sculptures each year. This year the theme was World War II. They share a large border with Germany so they were invaded early. The sculptures tried to show scenes from all different facets of the war.

They also had left over space so there were just random sculptures in one room.

Because it was touristy, they had lots of vendors and other more permanent sculptures. One of the vendors sold smoked fish so Jodi bought a smoked eel. It wasn't bad, mostly smokey, a little salty, and not very fishy.

I have a picture of the eel, but I guess I didn't upload it. I will try to find it and load it here later.

We did another trip to old town Harderwijk with Jodi Shelby, Rood, and Runa. We went and had lunch, then walked around again.

Our last trip was to old town Amsterdam. most of Amsterdam is modern, but the center of the city with the canals is older. Not too old, because a lot of it was destroyed in WWII.

This was our first view after we got out of the parking garage.

We walked around for a while.

We found The Bullfrog, which is the oldest 'coffee shop' (meaning it sells pot) in Amsterdam. This was on the edge of the Red Light District. It was early in the day so I only saw one girl dancing in a window. Jan said there was another that I missed.

After lunch, we took a boat tour of the canals. It started in the bay where the ships come in, then made a circle through the canals.

After the tour, we went up the Sky Lounge Bar at the top of the Double Tree Hotel.

It was raining off and on so the pictures look dark.

After that, it was starting to get dark so we headed back to the car.

We left the next day. The flights were ok. The long flight to LA was only an hour late landing. Then we had to walk to the other terminal and go through security again to get on the Las Vegas plane.

We picked up the dogs the next morning and headed back to the trailer. The kennel lady said that Porter would be over his fear of other dogs, and he is. It doesn't stop him from barking at them, but he will go up to other dogs and people now. I think it made him more demanding of us too. I think he barks more at us when he wants something. He probably learned that at the kennel, trying to get people's attention.

Anyway, we are still stuck here in Bakersfield. That will be another blog.
