Marie Selby Botanical Gardens

Everything grows great here in Florida. Plants that are inside plants in other parts of the world grow outdoors here.

We took a walking tour of the botanical gardens. I am only going to put the highlight pictures in this blog. You can see all the pictures on the Florida Photos page.

The main theme of the garden this year is Roy Lichtenstein's interpretation of Monet's Garden. They had several original Lichtenstein's on display, but no Monet's. Roy liked Monet and wrote about his garden paintings. Eventually, he made several of his own paintings based on Monet. That's why in a lot of the pictures you see large, one or two color objects around the garden. That is the Lichtenstein touch.

There is another sub theme in the garden. That shade of green is a color that Monet came up with and painted his personal garden with. It was based on a strange little flower.

My picture doesn't do the flower justice. It needs to be lighted better, but I wasn't allowed to use a flash. The little pod shaped flowers are really that same shade of green.
