Thursday was not as great of a day as Wednesday. It was very windy and rainy in the morning. After noon, it was calmer but still cloudy. Another big storm is supposed to hit at 6pm.
We took the dogs on a drive by the lake. We went to Presque Isle Park. It is not an Isle, it is a peninsula. There is an island out there in the bay, but it is called Middle Island. It's a state park and they don't allow dogs on the trails or beaches so Brie and Porter had to stay in the truck. Too bad, we could have walked some more along a scenic shore.
Here are some more shots of the park.
Yesterday, I wrote about the iron ore industry in the area. Today, we found another port. That same ship we saw yesterday was at this port getting loaded with iron ore pellets. It is at another Ore Dock. The Ore Dock has a sign that it has been working for 100 years (probably with a lot of upkeep). I was able to get closer to take pictures of it.
We really liked Marquette, but we hate the winters. It gets 155" of snow. It also doesn't warm up until June. If not for the winters, this would be on the list of places to settle down it. We noticed that we have a type of town that we like for settling down. Fort Collins, CO; Annapolis, MD; Boise, ID; Marquette, MI; Park City, UT; Clermont, FL; Asheville, NC. It seems we like medium size towns that are on the water and are usually college towns. Clermont is not a college town, but it is near Orlando. They usually have a waterfront downtown and they have multiple craft breweries. What we haven't found is a place with a climate that isn't too hot in the summer and not too cold in the winter. We will keep looking.
