We hit the road again and are starting the spring and summer trip.
This park has a 9 hole golf course. There was a discount golf store near us in Yuma where we gave in and each bought a starter set, 6 clubs each. He said that is all we need for learning and when we are back in Yuma next year, we can bring them back in for store credit on a better set. While we are here, we will go to a driving range and take some lessons. We hope to not be an embarrassment on a 9-hole course by next year. Arizona has golf courses on every corner.
This is a better shot of where we are staying than the one above. That is the Superstition Mountains in the background and our trailer on the right. That picture was taken from my phone. I need to take a better one with the camera and then you could see details in the mountains.
The appliance repairmen stopped by. 2 guys were here for over an hour and they couldn't figure out what is wrong with the washing machine. They called the manufacture and they were no help either. They suggested replacing the condenser. The repair guy looked it up on his computer and it would take 7 new parts. He started an order and after only 5 parts, the subtotal was $1,200. That was about what we paid for it. 2 more parts and the repair would be more than the washer was ever worth. We didn't get it repaired. We will keep using it until it completely breaks down. Right now it's just an annoyance to manually stop it.
A new problem has popped up for the trailer. The awning is starting to make a grinding noise and is slow retracting. It needs a new motor. According to the awning repair guy, it will be $477. At this rate, by next year we will have a whole new trailer because we will be replacing it part by part.
I wrote the first paragraph yesterday and since then, we went and stopped at the Pro Shop for the golf course. They gave us a card for someone to give us golf lessons. Now we have lessons scheduled for Friday. Maybe by Saturday, we will know how to hit the ball. We have clubs, a golf bag and some clothes. Now we need balls, tees, a little wheeled cart to drag the golf bags around in, shoes, hats, little pens to mark your ball, a golf cart, hole in one insurance, etc. I am only kind of kidding here. It takes a lot of stuff to golf. Until we can do more that hit the ball at the driving range, we will stick with what we already have. Hole in one insurance is an actual thing. If you get a hole in one, you are supposed to buy a round of drinks for everyone at the bar.
Our first impression of Mesa is that it is just another American suburb. A run down suburb at that. Jan calls it Rancho Cordova in the desert. There are mostly 55+ snowbird parks that range from small park model homes, to parks with single wides, to parks with double wides, and few housing developments and all these parks allow RVs in the lots they haven't sold yet. In between all this (with no civic planning) is random houses, mobile homes, and RVs all existing next to one another and all with varying levels of maintenance. About 10% of the homes around here should be torn down. We actually considered buying something in Yuma, we are not tempted to buy anything here.
We gave ourselves 2 weeks here in Mesa because it should be baseball spring training and we wanted to go to a few Giants games. Now that's all canceled. All we can do now is buy Arizona Diamondback themed bags of peanuts. Golf it is for the next 2 weeks.
