Change of plans. The Pacific City Thousand Trails Park was a bust and we had to scramble to find a new place to stay for 4 nights.

That's the view from Neskowin Creek.

Here is the view from Corvallis.

So here's what happened.

There are 3 Thousand Trails parks on the Oregon coast. The other 2 were full when we made reservations so we took the Pacific City park. It had mediocre reviews, but that's sometimes OK.

We get there and go looking for a spot. There is basically one road going through the park and it is a narrow road. Cars had to pull off into a site for us to get by them. That was the first bad sign. The main road was too narrow. We find a site that had 50 amps and a sewer and we tried to park. That was a mistake. There was large cement block on the other side of the street, poles for wi-fi and lights on both sides of the street (and the street is narrow) and trees lining the site. I tried for a half an hour to get into that place, blocking traffic the whole time, and finally gave up. I backed up and let the cars go up a side street and I went on.

We found another site, this time with no sewer. We can handle that for a few days so I tried again. This time it was one wi-fi pole and trees in the site that messed us up. Our trailer just did not fit that park. There were probably sites that we could fit in, but they were all taken.

There are side roads in the park but they're unmarked. We went on our way after the second site and came to a cross-roads. I took the wrong one because it went up a hill to the dump station. I wasn't expecting it and it would have been ok but the dump station was set up for 2 RVs and had metal poles in the middle of the road. I was at a bad angle so I had to back up and try to get a good angle to go through the stupid dump station.

After that, we gave up and left the park. We had to drive back to Pacific City (about 5 miles) to get a cell phone signal. We had no place to stay and it is coming up on Labor Day weekend. I knew we were only about 100 miles from our next stop so I called them to see if we could get in early. They had openings up to Thursday, but Friday and Saturday nights were all booked up. I took it because we didn't have a lot of choice. What I didn't consider was that it was 100 miles on the Oregon Coast. The GPS said it would take 4 more hours to get there. Not fun after spending 5 hours in the truck already. Jan called around and found a place for the night.

Next stop, Neskowin Creek RV Resort. This place is a membership only resort, but they took pity on us and let us in. They didn't let us in to the main park though, they would only let us in to the partial hook up area. These sites only have water and electricity. That was still more expensive than most parks with full hookups. Oh well, it was only one night. At least this park had cell service so I could look for another place to stay.

Neskowin Creek is a pretty park, surrounded by mountains and trees. Not pretty enough for us to buy a membership. This is the only place we have been where there are warning sighs for rabbits. One warned you that they eat car and trailer wiring. Another warned you not to pet them because they bite. Most wild rabbits are brown and white, but these rabbits look like escaped (or dumped) pet rabbits. They were black and white. These 2 bunnies were in the site next to our trailer.

I found a place that had openings to get us to Sunday. That's were we are now, in Corvallis. There is not a lot to do or see in Corvallis since it is in the middle of farm country. The only reason it exists is that Oregon State University is here. It's a cheap park and there isn't anything to do around here so it definitely won't blow the budget.

We talked to our neighbor last night. He works for the Army, repairing National Guard helicopters. He covers 13 western states. What he does is go to a site for 3 months and take one helicopter completely apart and put it back together again, then he goes on to the next place. He and his fiancé will be here until the end of September, then he goes to Montana. He said that the last guy that was in Montana in the winter got snowed in to his trailer. There was so much snow he couldn't get the door open. Our neighbor said he will probably park the trailer with his parents and stay in a hotel in Montana.

I think my last blog talked about going to meet my sister in Eugene. We did. We went out to dinner with Kim and her boyfriend James. We went to a restaurant on the river and ate out on the deck. The weather was perfect, not too hot or too cold.

Kim, we will see you again the next time we hit Oregon.

I don't think I will write anything else about Corvallis. Our next stop is Coos Bay on Sunday. Back to the coast and cool weather.
