Red Bluff Part 2

Things are starting to move (only not us).

I will tell you what's happening by crisis and not by the time that they happened because everything is going on at once.

Let's start with the truck. It's a good news/bad news situation. It does need new front brakes, it does need new tires, it does need an alignment, it does NOT need shocks. It turns out that 2 inspections, one by GMC and one by Les Schwab, were wrong. That's the good news: there is nothing wrong with the shocks and they don't need replacing. The bad tread wear pattern was because of an alignment problem. Les Schwab should have known that since they are a tire company. The bad news is that the previous owner of the truck put weird size tires on the truck. Of course they are more expensive and not in stock. They were supposed to do all the work today, but because they had to order the tires and order some of the brake parts, they will do it all tomorrow. Now we will be safe from losing our brakes while going down some mountain.

Now let's go to the accident. The accident was on Friday and I hadn't heard from them so I texted them this morning. Only now are they asking questions about the accident. I had to give them pictures of the front/rear/driver side/passenger side of the truck and the same for the trailer. Then I had to send them pictures of the VIN plates for the truck and trailer. The claims adjuster asked me to give her the policy number for the trailer. Shouldn't she have that already? She works for Progressive. Anyway, they will coordinate with someone to come and look at it for an appraisal. After that, they will give me a check. I pay whoever does the work. We found someone in Placerville to do the work. The adjuster also just said that she will now get in touch with the people who own the car I hit. Shouldn't they have done that sooner?

We found a place in Placerville called Stymeist RV Repair who does body work. A couple of places we checked out don't that kind of work. They are located next to the dump in Placerville. I hope that isn't a sign of things to come. They couldn't guarantee that they could get all the work done in the time we have in Sacramento because of part shortages. We looked up a water heater door on Amazon because we need one and some of the suppliers said they are out of stock. If you look hard enough you can find some out there. We might have to order one ourselves and give it to the repair guy. We planned for a 3 week stay near Yosemite, but we might have to move a couple of weeks back to Sacramento.

Now let's go on to the bathroom/pantry remodel. We hadn't heard from the cabinet people yet so Jan emailed them. They will be ready to install on the morning of September 23. We can get to their shop on Wednesday night and stay in their parking lot overnight. They have power, but not water or sewer. We can handle that for one night (we have done it before). They will do all the installations on Thursday and we can pick up the trailer Thursday and hit the road.

Here is what that does to our planned schedule. We won't be going to Shingle Springs on the 17th, that will be pushed back to the 25th. Here is the new schedule:

Stay here in Red Bluff until September 21.

September 21: Drive to Chiloquin, OR and stay at the Wagonwheel RV park for one night.

September 22: Drive to Bend and park at the cabinet maker's parking lot

September 23: Kill all day in Bend. I wonder if Deschutes Brewing allows you to stay all day with 2 dogs. Pick up the trailer and stay at the Scandia RV Park for one night.

September 24: Drive to Weed, CA and spend one night at Friendly's RV Park

September 25: Drive to Shingle Spring and get back on schedule.

October 1: Drive to CalExpo RV Park and stay for 17 days.

This will put a lot of miles on the pickup and trailer. I don't like buying diesel in California. It's 50 cents to a dollar more expensive than anywhere else we have been.

Now let's go on to other miscellaneous stuff.

The cabinet maker does not do the pantry countertop. We will get that done by Home Depot. The shortened time in Sacramento means we won't have time for it. We will talk to them about scheduling it and maybe we have to extend our stay at CalExpo until it's ready. Unfortunately, we can't do anything in advance because they have to come in and make a template so we need to be in Sacramento to do that.

We also need to get the brakes on the trailer checked and maybe replaced. I hope a mobile repairman can do that.

One a side note, my family used to live in Chiloquin, OR. I remember the Wagonwheel RV park. It's on the Williamson River, just off Highway 97. We lived on the Williamson River too, only we lived farther west, near Agency Lake.

I haven't taken any pictures, except the ones for Progressive. We haven't done anything except go for one drive and go to the tire shop.
