Rockport is on the Gulf of Mexico, about 30 miles north of Corpus Cristi.
Yuck! Our window is filthy now.
This RV park is less than a year old. Everything still looks new. Soon, RV's will run over the grass and crack the concrete, but for now, it looks great.
This would normally be a great place to go out and do things. We just have bad timing with our stay here. The wind is 30mph with higher gusts and is forecasted to keep doing that for our entire stay. There is supposed to be a sand sculpture competition, but it will be even windier out on the island. Sport fishing is shut down except for the very strong of stomach.
The Texas highway system has fewer major highways than you would think. There is Highway 10 going from El Paso to San Antonio to Houston. There is Highway 20 going from El Paso to Dallas. Then, there is Highway 35 going from Dallas to San Antonio and Highway 45 going from Dallas to Houston. If you are not on one of them, you have to use the Texas Farm Road and Ranch Road network. They are not bad and you see a lot of things you won't see on the highway. On this trip we used the farm roads that went from the hill country of Austin to the plains south of San Antonio to the coastal wetlands of the Gulf. It was much more scenic than the days worth of desert we have been traveling. The wildflowers are blooming for the spring. Near Austin, the main wildflower is the Blue Bonnet. There are entire fields and meadows that are purple. As you go more south, the Blue Bonnets give way to Indian Paintbrush. These are orange flowers and we saw fields of them too. Mixed in with these are pink Mexican Primroses. The primroses were just in small clumps and not entire fields. Those were the only flowers we could name. The rest were just white and yellow flowers in clumps, still pretty, just not as numerous.
We went through the historical town of Goliad. The phrase "Remember the Alamo" used to be the longer "Remember Goliad, Remember the Alamo". A Mexican general captured and American army and executed them all. They are all buried in Goliad. The Mexican General Ignacio Zaragoza was born there. He beat the French army at the Battle of Puebla on Cinco de Mayo. He is the reason we drink Margaritas in May.
Back to Rockport. Here are some pictures of the seafront.
On to the bad news. Our refrigerator has died. It will only get to around 50º. Chilly, but not what you want for food. It's Sunday so everything is closed. We went to Lowe's and found a new fridge, but they will not install it in a trailer. We have to find someone to help me get the old one out and the new one in.
