We left Rockport, but I still have some stuff to talk about.
That's the Gulf of Mexico.
The entire time we stayed in Rockport, it was windy to very windy. It was hard enough to shake the trailer. The manager of the RV park said that the wind was unusual for this time of year. The good news is that we just had the wind. As the wind went farther north in to Texas, it turned into thunderstorms and tornados. They even had one a near Austin.
The fridge finally quit acting up. On Tuesday, it was acting normally with good temperatures and the ice maker was working. We went to Lowe's and looked at new fridges on Sunday. We almost bought one but decided to call Hisense customer support to see if they could help. No, they could not help. They did not call back until we were on the road driving to our next stop, and that was Wednesday.
We did take one road trip in the wind. We drove out to Mustang Island, Padre Island, and back through Corpus Christi. To go from the mainland to Mustang Island, you have to take a ferry. I think it's the only free ferry in America. It's a pretty good setup too. They have 3 ferries going constantly, only stopping when a big container ship goes by. We had to wait for one. Here are some pictures.
The first picture is one of the other ferries. The next 2 pictures are of the ship going by. They don't let you get out of your car so I wasn't able to get good pictures of the ship. The last picture is a Laughing Gull. They do sound weird. I wouldn't particularly call it laughing.
Mustang Island is a vacation place. Not quite as cheesy as Myrtle Beach but almost. They went with the same kind of architecture as most of the east coast with boxy houses on stilts. The difference here is that they like color. Pastels mostly. Picture a carton of lightly dyed Easter eggs and that is what a vacation cottage development looks like. No pictures because I was driving.
We stopped at a beach on the island. Here are pictures.
In the second picture, you can see I parked on the beach. It was not the cement hard sand of Daytona beach, it was loose sand. I had to put the truck in 4-wheel drive to get out. The third picture is a sandcastle since we missed the sand sculpture contest. The last picture is much better in high resolution. I had to shrink it down to fit on the webpage so you miss the stuff in the background. There are old pilings in the mist and they don't shop up as well on the low res picture.
Corpus Christi is an oil city. There are oil rigs off the coast and oil refineries wherever you look. Also, the highway system there is terrible and mostly under construction. Stay away from there for the next 10 years, until all the construction is done.
