This post will be about a lot of little stuff that didn't make it into other blogs.
This is from the RV park looking out over the Croatan Sound (looking west instead of east). A professional photographer would have taken this picture so all the lines were parallel and straight. I took it as is. The horizon is a little off level and the pier is tilted and warped. I still like the picture.
Here are more pictures from Rodanthe.
Useless Fact: A movie called 'Nights in Rodanthe' with Richard Gere and Diane Lane was filmed here. All the buildings look like you would expect east coast beach houses to look. They are all blue or weathered grey and they are all on stilts because hurricanes flood the whole island. Balconies and roof top decks are also required.
Charleston, SC was a nice place to visit. It is definitely a foody kind of place with lots of local restaurants. The buildings were only kind of old. Most were burned down in the Civil War. Only a few churches and other scattered buildings survived. We had to cut our visit short because Porter was being a pain in the ass. He does not like to be kept in the stroller and he is too young to walk all the way so he kept whining and barking. We may have to come back some day.
The Carolina Coast is beautiful and is a possible place to settle down at, however, it is an expensive place to live if you want to be on the water. It's cheaper if you move inland. I don't think we want to move inland though.
We met Jan's half brother Bill at the Flying Fish Public Market and Grill for dinner. It sells and serves fresh local seafood. We had a great time catching up after too many years.
I think I am caught up with unloading all of my pictures to the website. Check them out on the South Carolina and North Carolina pages.
I have the map of our future travels updated. I order to break up the 6 hour drives, I had to add more stops which means shorter stays for that stretch. I don't think I will be able to brew any beer until we make it to Washington State. There will be too many travel days and all my beer would slosh out of the fermenter and make a mess. My last batch is the Blackeye Bock that I bottled last week.
I filled up my grower at a brewery in Beaufort, NC called Fishtowne Brew House. The pale ales were okay, but I liked the stout best. The stout I picked is called Black Cat Milk Stout. I recommend it if you like stouts.
We are going to visit Fort Raleigh today. Another blog and pictures for that later. Fort Raleigh is where the Roanoke colony was before it disappeared.
