The thunderstorms finally left the area.
Yup, that's Brie checking out the tornado shelter here are the park. It can probably hold 10 people if they all stand. If a tornado went through, then this park would be like the Titanic with not enough life boats.
One to two thunderstorms went through every day since we got here. Today (Saturday, day 6) is the first day without one. Oklahoma storms are nothing like California storms. OK storms have a lot more lightning and thunder and they rain a lot harder. I don't like driving in rain like that so we always check the weather report and try not to drive in those. We have changed reservations to miss storms before. This time, we made it Oklahoma before one storm and no storms are forecast for Sunday. Instead of storms, the heat is going up to 95º. With all the rain and soggy ground, the humidity is going to be up around 90%. This will give the area a heat index of 110º. The heat index is like the wind chill, but in the other direction.
Since today was a clear day, only a little hot and humid, we went on a little road trip. We drove around Lake Kerr. The gates for the dam were all open for the lake and the Arkansas River looked like a white water river. A week of rain filled the reservoir and they had to let a lot of water out. The main roads around the lake are a ways from the lake so to see it, we went down some little country roads.
The pavement ran out so we went down 5 miles of dirt roads to the lake.
I don't have any pictures of the lake because when we got to a good view of the lake, there were millions of reasons not to open the door or windows of the truck. I guess it's May Fly season. As soon as I stopped, they covered the truck.
They are tenacious little bugs too. The last of them didn't get blown off the windows until I made it up to 60mph.
This is our last day here, tomorrow we had for Lake Texoma and the Lake Texoma RV Resort. We stayed there almost 2 years ago. It was the first place we stayed when we bought the trailer. We are trying to cut down on our driving because of the price of gas so we will be staying in Texas for the summer and staying a long time at each place. We will be at Lake Texoma for 3 weeks (I can brew some beer again).
