We are actually in Cody, WY, but I need to post about Sheridan.
We probably should have stayed in Sheridan for a couple of more days, but we could only get 2 days because of the rodeo. We only had one day to run around so we went to Big Horn National Park. We hoped to see Big Horn Sheep, Mountain Goats, Moose, Elk, and deer. We only saw a deer. Bummer.
Here are some photos of Big Horn National Park.
As you drive up into the park, they have signs telling you how old the rock layers you see are. They ranged from 3 Billion Years to 35 million years. Thats a lot of geology all in one place. What they don't have in the park is stores.
When you first get to the park, you start up the face of a mountain. You go from 4,000 ft to 8,000 feet in the first 20 miles. It's all switch backs. When we got back to the trailer we checked the GPS to see how we get to Cody and it was right up the same road. Nope, not towing a trailer.
The park is not as rugged as the Black Hills, but just as beautiful. There are lots of rocky crags and lots of pine trees.
Mostly, people go up there for fishing and to ride their ATV's. We saw lots of ATVs.
For dinner, we went to the Wyoming Cattle and Creek Co. It's a steakhouse. I recommend it if you go to Sheridan. They had a lot of local brews. I found another really good IPA called High Country IPA from Luminous Brewhouse. I even went to the brewery and had a growler filled with it.
The sky was filled with smoke. There are fires in Wyoming and Idaho. The first day we were there, we could barely see the mountains. There was a wind storm overnight so the day we left was a little clearer. That first picture in the gallery above is a view over the Sheridan valley and you can see how smokey it is.
There are more pictures on the Wyoming photo page.
