We've had our meetings and paid our deposits so now we wait for a house to be built. It may take a month for them to even think about building our house.

As you can see, we have really good cell phone reception here.

We had a visit from this little guy.

House News

We are done with our design meetings. The electrical meeting was pretty quick. It was about adding new plugs and light pre-wiring. They really wanted to sell us home entertainment and security systems, but we didn't want any of that. Most of that type of stuff is wireless now so there isn't much need for wiring. The cell reception at the new house is terrible so we did have to make sure we had fiber optic cable to the house because we will have to do phone calls over the wifi.

The last design meeting we had was for floors, cabinets, paint and that kind of stuff. It was supposed to take all day, but Jan knew what she wanted and we finished up just after lunch. Here is the stuff she picked out.

Our next meeting will be a video meeting with the builder. This will be to go over everything we asked for and where everything will go on the house. This will take a long time. It will probably be a month or so before we have it.

Texas Architecture

There is a definite Texas style of houses. The first thing you notice is the roofs. They like lots of angles and tall roofs.

I think the height thing has to do with 10 gallon hats. They want one on their houses.

The roofs also have to be either the shade of brown you see above or black. Nothing else. We only had those 2 choices and we chose brown.

The other thing about Texas houses is that they do not want rectangle houses. They have to have rooms sticking off everywhere. Our house is small, but the guest room in the front sticks out past the front door and the garage sticks out even more. On the back side, the master bedroom sticks out past the great room.

Travel Updates

We've made our reservations through the middle of July. That gets us from New Orleans up to the Ozarks and then over to Colorado, and then up to northern Utah. I haven't put them on the website yet, but I will soon.
