St Johns River, FL

We interrupt our travel schedule with a new stop.

We are right on the St Johns river. That may not be a good thing since the river has reached flood stage further down river. We are fine for now.

Here are the park mascots.

The are Florida Blue Cranes. They just wander around the park and are in no hurry to get out of the way of cars.

We planned to stay in Port Orange for 2 weeks, but we couldn't take it. The park was a dive and a train track ran right behind our trailer. Trains came by every hour or so all day and night. Most of the park had permanent owners and there are no rules on maintaining anything. We were parked next to a rotting motorhome with all kinds of dirt and moss caked on it. It was not a pleasant sight.

Port Orange itself is okay. It looks like any other American suburb. All the same chain restaurants and stores. The touristy part was along the Daytona Beach strip. That was all condos and hotels. The beach was different that west coast beaches. The sand is like concrete. In fact, for $20, you can drive on the beach for 20 or 30 miles. It was closed while we were there because of stormy weather. Lots of high waves and rip currents.

We went to an old sugar plantation that has been turned into a garden. It wasn't really a sugar plantation for very long because the Seminole Indians burned it down. All that's left is the mill which was made of brick and stone. Pictures are on the photos page.

I will get around to adding more stuff about Brunswick. I should talk about Savannah and Brunswick. The pictures are on the Photos page but I need to add the captions and descriptions.

I have plenty of time to get caught up now. Hurricane Eta is playing with Florida. It hit the keys today and is supposed to loop back around and hit norther Florida on Wednesday or Thursday. The winds aren't bad here. They come in gusts. The rain is also hit or miss. It will pour down for 10 minutes and then stop.
