The Blue Ridge Parkway

Last week, we took a drive on part of the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is a long, skinny national park that goes from North Carolina to Virginia.

It was a beautiful day, sunny and warm. It took about an hour to get there. The weather changed once we got there. There was a band of clouds that went along the mountains. It was still sunny down in the valley. You could see all the sun to both sides when you got to the top of a ridge, but it was cloudy along the parkway.

The first picture, above shows the sunny valley. The second picture shows the clouds above us.

It was still a beautiful drive. The trees are starting to turn colors, mostly yellow so far, not a lot of reds.

Around 1pm, we got hungry and tried to find someplace for lunch. There is nothing in the park except rest areas with vending machines so we took one of the exits at a small town. Jan googled restaurants and we went to find them. The closest ones were closed down. She then expanded her search area. We ended up going to a town called Galax, VA. We finally found a few restaurants open and got a couple of sandwiches to go. The funny thing is, Galax is were we got on the parkway in the first place. We should have had lunch when we got there and skipped all the searching. Now we know.

After lunch, we drove the parkway some more.

If you are in the area, someday, we suggest you take the drive.

We only went down a small part of the parkway. We will go down a different part while we are in Asheville.
