Full time RVing means you never know where anything is. If you want to go to the grocery store, google it. Do you want to go out to eat? Google it. Gas stations that have diesel at a reasonable price or the next rest area? You never know.
It’s a good thing we have 2 people in the truck. One drives and the other is in Maps.
By the way, not all GPS services are the same. Apple Maps and Google maps are great when you are in town and don’t have the trailer. They have a tendency to take you down narrow or residential streets when they think it’s best. Unfortunately, their idea of best is for a car.
We have a Rand McNalley RV stand-alone GPS. This takes the road into account for RVs. It checks for weight over bridges and height for going under overpasses or through tunnels. It will not take us down a road that we can’t get out of. The problem with it is that the user interface is terrible. You really need to set up your trip before you leave.
Finally, we have the truck GPS. It gives terrible directions and can’t handle roundabouts. At best, we use it for street names. We tried to use it to get to a fast food restaurant once and we will never use it again. It tried to take us through parking lots and fails at complicated intersections.
If all else fails, we have a paper atlas.
