We are still in Lubbock. We decided that the drive to the DMV office was too long to leave the dogs alone in the trailer so we will be moving to Odessa on the morning of our appointments and staying there for one night.
We tried to check out Lubbock, but it is a shut down city. None of the museums were open. They have a Buddy Holly museum and an archeological museum that has displays of human occupation going back 12,000 years. Even the brew pub is closed for the duration. The downtown area was built in the 20s or 30s and all the buildings are brick. We have seen nothing of the old west stuff that we thought would be here. The city thought it would be a good idea to pave the Depot District (the old town) with brick pavers to match the buildings. It was not a good idea. The bricks shifted and sank at different rates so every brick is now a speed bump. It looks fine, but it really needs to be redone.
Did you know that Lubbock is the largest cotton growing area in the world. Everywhere you look that is not a building, has cotton growing. They are still small, about 1 foot tall and have little white flowers. By November or December, they will be ready to pick.
Here is another fun fact about Lubbock, it is the 3rd windiest city in America. It hasn't stopped blowing since we got here.
Jan said that I need to include a new rating when I talk about RV parks. How good is the dog park? This park has the second best dog park we have seen since we started. It is big enough for Brie to run laps and it is well watered and all the grass is green. Not only does it have the one large park, it also has two smaller parks. You would be surprised at how many dog parks are either dirt or dried weeds (with stickers). Most dog parks are also so small that Brie can't get up to full speed when she runs.
Housekeeping update: I have added a new page to the site that has our next few stops. It only goes out a few stops because we are still up in the air about what will happen with the new trailer.
