Yuma, AZ Part 2

It seems harder to blog when I am staying in one place than when we are traveling.

It is also less of an incentive to go exploring when you know you have lots of time. We haven't done as much exploring around Yuma than we should have. One reason is that there is not a lot to do right here in Yuma, you need to drive 30-100 miles to see stuff. What little we have done is on the Arizona Photo page. https://www.wandering-around.net/arizona

Let's talk about the park we are staying at. It's called The Palms RV Resort. It's not really an RV park, it is an RV community. They rent and sell the RV lots. They have sold almost all the lots. We can still buy one for $53,000. Once you buy one, you have to do some kind of improvement. At the minimum, you need to put in an RV pad. From there, you can go all the way up to putting in a 2 story house. One house sold while we were here for $449,000. That's a lot of money for a 40'x80' lot.

It does look nice in here.

Even though it is an upscale RV community, the rent here is cheap. We normally budget for $50-$75 a night for RV parking, but here it is $33 a night when you pay the monthly rate. The only way we can get cheaper rent is to stay at a Thousand Trails park. The rent here is so good that we decided to stay here next winter. We booked December 1 through March 31. That will put us $1600 under budget for that time period. Plus I drive the truck a lot less and no towing so the gas savings is huge too.

Staying at The Palms is kind of like being on a cruise. If you want, they can schedule your whole day. Here is the schedule for Monday, Feb 28:

8:00-8:45 Walk Fit

9:00-10:00 Chair Yoga

9:00-1:00pm Tennis

9:00-10:00 Trash Pick Up

9:15-12:00 Shuffleboard

10:00-11:00 Gentle Yoga

11:15-12:15 - Aqua Fit

12:30-4:30 Golf at the Yuma Golf and Country Club

1:30-3:30 PEO Quilt Binge

2:00-3:00 Pickleball Tournament

2:00-3:00 Women's Bible Study

5:30-9:00 The Palms Medieval Fair

6:30-7:00 Bike Brigade

6:30-8:30 Bunco

7:00-9:00 Poker

They have their own bar here where drinks are $2 during happy hour and $4 the rest of the time. They also have a cafe (skip the pizza, it's not great).

One day, they had a car show.

They have also had 2 concerts since we have been here.

For Brie, they have 2 dog parks and 2 grassy areas for dogs. The dog parks both have mowed grass, which is a luxury for her. She loves it. We bought her a little frisbee and she gets to carry it home from the dog park to the trailer. In fact, she won't let go of the frisbee until she gets a drink of water. Then I grab it and wash it because it is very slimy after being in her mouth that long.

Enough about the park.

We met up with a couple of Jan's friends from Red Bluff, Dennis and Remy Bagshaw. We met them at Prison Hill Brewing in old town Yuma, then a couple of days later, we went to Mexico for lunch and prescriptions.

Jan bought a few things and Dennis and Remy bought stuff for themselves and for a few of their friends. Lunch was good. We went to a little outdoor restaurant and sat in the courtyard for lunch. It was pretty interesting. Getting in to Mexico was easy. The Federales didn't really care, they just said Hi and let us in. Getting out was much harder. We had to wait in line to get back through customs and show our passports.

Last weekend was the Chef's Dinner. It cost $75 per person and it let the chef go crazy. He used to be a chef in New Orleans. We were handed a glass of champagne when we walked in and they kept the wine coming after that. Besides the champagne, we got a glass of wine with each course, 2 whites and 2 reds. During dessert, they also had brandy. I am not that big of a wine drinker so I went to the bar and got a beer. I gave Jan my wine. Around the second course, the lady sitting next to me, Donna, went and got me another beer and so after that, I split my wine between Jan and Donna. They both got plastered. I was fine with 2 beers and one champagne.

The appetizer course was a lobster trio: lobster bisque, lobstercargo, and lobster crostini. The salad course was watermelon radish and orange salad. The third course was duck breast with sweet potato soufflé. The fourth course was lamb and Brussel sprouts. The dessert course was a let down. We think they went somewhere and bought chocolate and peanut butter cake.

That's it for this blog. I still have more stuff to talk about so I will do another one soon.
