Yuma, Part 3

The last post was about the RV park and some of the things we have done. This one will be a little more catching up on just stuff.

That's just a cactus I liked.

One last bit of site seeing we did, that I didn't put in the last post, was a trip up the Colorado River. By the time it gets down here to Yuma, it is a lot smaller that it is in the Grand Canyon. Because of all the agriculture around here, they put in a few dams. They didn't dam the main channel of the Colorado River, they diverted some of the water into these side lakes. The side lakes are then channeled down into the valley where they grow a lot of salad vegetables. Maybe they grow different things at other times of the year, but we saw a lot of lettuce, cabbage, onions, etc.

We followed the river up to Mittry Lake. This is small lake in the foothills. Most of the land out there is state and federal land so you can park your RV out in the sand and stay as long as you want. We saw a lot of RV's parked out there.

On our way back we saw a small bridge over one of the canals. Here it is:

Yes, that bridge is covered in swastikas. The rumor is that German POWs (which were in the area) carved them into the bridge, but that isn't true. The bridge was built in 1907 by an engineer who just got back from India. He saw the swastikas on bridges in India and liked how they looked. As you can see, they fenced off the bridges to stop people from vandalizing it.

Here is the trailer update.

The dryer is still acting up. We had a guy come and replace the PCB board (like the guy in Palm Springs said we needed). It didn't work. The problem is still going on. We have another appointment with a guy in Mesa. Maybe he can figure it out.

I replace 2 tires on the trailer. When I had the leaf spring problems, the axle was out of alignment and that made the tires on that axle wear on the inside edge. The wear was almost down to the belts. The good news is that I think the truck and trailer are all fixed and we should be good to hit the road.

I brewed 2 batches of beer while we were here. The first was a wheat beer. I have it in a growler for carbonation. I should be able to drink that on Monday. The second beer is an Oktoberfest lager. That is still fermenting and I should be able to bottle it next Wednesday. The amber ale and the IPA I brewed in Palm Springs are ready to drink. I finished off the growler of amber ale and will probably finish off the growler of IPA this weekend. I tried one bottle of amber to make sure it is carbonated and it is. That means the bottles of IPA should be ready too.

We have started working on our spring itinerary. We have our trip planned out from here to San Padre Island in Texas with reservations. From there, we want to go up the Gulf Coast to New Orleans. After New Orleans, we will go up north to Nashville. After that, we still need to decide. I have not put our trip on website yet, but I will soon.
